Service Philosophy

All employees, volunteers, and contractors of Camino, across all services and programs are expected to provide services that are in alignment with Camino’s service philosophy.

Person-Centered and Family-Centered Care

We place the utmost importance on treating each individual as an active participant in their own care. We strive to understand and honour their unique preferences, life experiences, and goals. Recognizing the critical role of families and chosen families in the path to wellbeing, we engage family members as partners, offering them the support and resources necessary to nurture a healthy environment at home.

Recovery-Oriented

We believe in the potential for recovery and the realization of personal aspirations beyond the management of symptoms. Our services empower individuals with hope, emphasizing personal growth, resilience, and the pursuit of a fulfilling life.

Holistic Approach

Understanding that mental health is influenced by an array of interrelated factors, we adopt a holistic approach to service. This means addressing not only psychological symptoms but also supporting physical health, social connections, stable housing, meaningful employment, and spiritual or personal fulfillment.

Strengths-Based

Our work focuses on identifying and amplifying the existing strengths and resources of each individual. We encourage our clients to utilize their inherent capabilities to navigate challenges and achieve their objectives.

Trauma-Informed Care

We acknowledge the profound impact of trauma on mental health and structure our services to address its effects sensitively and effectively. Our approach is rooted in principles of safety, trustworthiness, and empowerment, aiming to prevent re-traumatization.

Culturally Competent and Equitable

We are dedicated to cultural competence and actively work to eliminate barriers to access in mental health care. Our services are tailored to respect and integrate the diverse cultural, social, and individual identities of the communities we serve.

Prevention and Early Intervention

We prioritize preventive measures and early intervention strategies to address mental health issues before they fully develop. By fostering resilience and providing timely support, we aim to mitigate the impact of mental health challenges on individuals and communities.

Collaborative Partnerships

We value and cultivate strong collaborations with individuals, families, other healthcare providers, and community organizations. These partnerships enhance our ability to offer comprehensive care and support networks that bolster long-term wellness.

Evidence-Informed Practice

Our methods are based on the latest research, clinical experience, and the feedback and preferences of our clients. We continuously refine our practices to ensure they are effective and responsive to the needs of those we serve.

Harm Reduction Approach

We offer non-judgmental and non-coercive services and resources to people who engage in risky behaviours, with the understanding that the reduction of harm, rather than the elimination of behaviour, is the primary goal.
